The Province of Fryslân has earmarked a budget of 100,000 euros for autonomous transportation testing.
The test results are expected to show to what degree autonomous transportation will contribute to flexible and affordable transportation as well as to rural liveability. In the same context, the need for road adjustments shall be assessed as well. By the end of 2018 or the beginning of 2019, Dutch legislation and regulations shall permit autonomous transportation to be implemented on public roads. Such transportation no longer requires the use of human drivers.
